Roman Empire - Hadrian (117-138 AD), Contorniate medaillon, c. 117-118 AD., Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust r. Rev. Hadrian seated l. on platform, extending r. hand. In front of him, attendant seated l. making distribution to citizen who is mounting steps to platform. In the background, Liberalitas standing l.AE (34 mm - 23.20 g.), C – , cf. 914 (sestertius). Gnecchi –. BMC –. MV –., Quality: holed, Fine. Extremely rare, apparently the second piece known (see NAC Auction 51, 5th March 2009, lot 977).
