British India – Bengal Presidency – East India Company (AD 1765-1835). Issue in the name of the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II. Rupee AH 1202 RY 19 (AD 1792-1830). Mint: Murshidabad type (mainly Calcutta), debased silver (ø 27 mm – w. 11.22 g.). Edge: grained left. Pridmore 403. Mitchiner 452.

Obverse:
Persian couplet, Emperor name and titles (Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl Ilah Hami ud-din Muhammad, Shah Alam, Badshah = Defender of the religion of Muhammad, Shah Alam, Emperor, shadow of the divine favour, put his stamp on the seven climes), date (1222) below.

Reverse:
Persian legend, mint name and frozen regnal year (Zarb Murshidabad sanat 19 julus maimanat manus = Struck at Murshidabad in the 19 year of his reign of tranquil prosperity).


Note:
Old imitation of the gold Mohur made in silver for Jewellery use, memento or souvenir. Struck after the 1838 when the 19 san sicca coinage ceased to be legal tender. Engraving style and manifacture are excellent, it looks original, with a fine patina.
