Obverse:
Persian legend. In centre in a plain square the Shahada, or Kalima-e-Tayyab, (from top to bottom: La ilah illa Allah / Rasul Allah Mohammed = (There is) no god but Allah (and) Muhammad (is the) Messenger (of) Allah). In the margins the names of the four Caliphs with attributes, partially visible (clockwise, starting at left: Umar al-Farooq / Uthman al-Affan / Ali al-Mutarda / Abu Bakr al-sadiq = Omar the discriminator between right and wrong / Osman son of Affan / Alì the pleasing to God / Abu Bakr the faithful witness).

Reverse:
Persian legend. In centre in a plain square the Ruler's name, title and pius wish (from top to bottom: Sultan / Shir Shah / Allah khallad Mulkahu = Sultan Sher Shah, may Allah perpetuate his reign), at botton in the square the Ruler's name in Nagari (Sri Sar Shah). The date (951) is at bottom left in the square. In the margins the Ruler's laqab and kunyah (clockwise from left to right: al-Sultan al-Adil / abu 'l Muzaffar Farid / al-dunya wa'l din = The Sultan, the Just, Father of the Victorius, Unique One of the world and of the faith). At bottom the Mint name (zarb Gwaliar = struck at Gwalior).
