Obverse: Persian legend. Amir's name and titles in centre (from bottom to top: wa al-Din / Siraj al-Mullat / Amir Habibullah = Lamp of the Nation and Religion, Habibullah, the Amir), date (1333) below, open wreath around tied with ribbon below, five-pointed star at top.
Reverse: Mosque with Mihrab and Minbar (1) inside in centre, two flags on the sides, crossed cannons below, Karakul hat (2) above, all within a circular sun-brust, open wreath around tied with ribbon below, denomination at top (Yak Rupya = One Rupee).
(1) The emblem of Afghanistan. The Mihrab is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the Mecca. The Minbar is the elevated reading desk or pulpit. (2) The Amir's full-dress uniform hat, with badge and/or plume, made from the wool of a Qaraqul sheep. A symbol of the Amir's power and authority, like a royal crown.
