Persian legend. Couplet with the Ruler's name and titles (from bottom to top: Bajud wa Karam Sikkah / dar Jehan Muhammad Ali zad Bad / shah Zeman = With Grace and Benevolence struck coin in the world, Muhammad Ali, Emperor of the Age). Date (1256) above the bottom line in centre. Border of rays between two circles. Mint mark 34 above the top line at right and 27 below the bottom line at left. Ornaments of dots in field.

Reverse:
Shah's arms in centre: a fish between two human figures, bare-headed, standing on a scroll, supporting a crown with one hand and holding a fly whisk in the other. Persian legend around: Country name, Mint name with epithet and Julus formula (clockwise, starting at left: Zarb Mulk Awadh Bait es-Sultanat Lakhnau sanah 4 julus maimanat manus = Struck in the Kingdom of Awadh, at the House of the Sultanate, Lucknow, (in the) year 4 (of his) reign associated with prosperity).
