Afghanistan – Barakzai Dynasty – Amanullah Khan, as Amir (AH 1337-1344 / AD 1919-1926) and as King (AH 1344-1347 / AD 1926-1929). Rupee SH 1299 (AD 1920), Mint: (Kabul), Silver (ø 27 mm – w. 9.17 g.). Edge: grained. Hamidi 31, KM 885.

Obverse:
Amir's Toughra (1) in centre (Amir Amanullah = Amanullah, the Amir), Amir's title at right (al-Ghazi = the Warrior against the infidels), date (1299) below, open wreath around tied with ribbon below, five-pointed star at top.

Reverse:
Mosque with Mihrab and Minbar (2) inside in centre, two flags on the sides, crossed swords (with hilts down) below, plumed Karakul hat (3) above, all within an oval sun-brust, open wreath around tied with ribbon below, denomination at top (Yak Rupya = One Rupee).


Note:
Two dots over the digit two and nine of the date.

(1) A style of elaborately adorned, calligraphic, imperial or royal signature, wich is characterized by flowing loops and vertical stems.
(2) The emblem of Afghanistan. The Mihrab is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the Mecca. The Minbar is the elevated reading desk or pulpit.
(3) The Amir's full-dress uniform hat, with badge and/or plume, made from the wool of a Qaraqul sheep. A symbol of the Amir's power and authority, like a royal crown.
