Burma – Mindon (CS 1214-240 / AD 1852-1878). Kyat CS 1214 (AD 1852), Mint: Mandalay, Silver (ø 31 mm – w. 11.56 g.). Edge: grained. Mitchiner 2820, KM 10.

Obverse:
Peacock half left with open tail. Burmese legend around (= Royal Seal). Toothed border.

Revere:
Open wreath, tied with ribbon below, in centre. Burmese legend around (= Mandalay, Royal Residence). In the wreath Value and Date (T'tjat Thon Dinga, 1214 = Use coin as One Kyat, 1214). Thooted border.

Note:
This coin was minted after 1862, when the new minting machinery was acquired from the Heaton mint in Birmingham, and backdated to Mindon's accession year 1852. Proof specimens are very rare. They can be considered patterns, struck at the Heaton mint (*), intended for presentation purposes.

(*) The Heaton archives had four (proof) sets and an extra of the Mu and Mat (extracted from Baldwin's Auctions Ltd, Auction 59-60, 5 May 2009, Lot 17).
