Rupee SH 1298 (AD 1919), Mint: (Kabul), Silver (ø 25 mm – w. 9.10 g.). Edge: grained. Hamidi 30I, KM 877.
Obverse: Persian legend. Amir's name and titles in centre (from bottom to top: Amir / Amanullah / al-Ghazi = Amanullah, the Amir, the Warrior against the infidels), date (1298) below, open wreath around tied with ribbon below.
Reverse: Mosque with Mihrab and Minbar (1) inside in centre, two flags on the sides, crossed swords (with hilts up) below, Karakul hat (2) above, all within a circular sun-brust, open wreath around tied with ribbon below, denomination at top (Yak Rupya = One Rupee).
Note: Without commas at left on obverse.
(1) The emblem of Afghanistan. The Mihrab is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the Mecca. The Minbar is the elevated reading desk or pulpit. (2) The Amir's full-dress uniform hat, with badge and/or plume, made from the wool of a Qaraqul sheep. A symbol of the Amir's power and authority, like a royal crown.
