Ceylon – Netherlands United East India Company (1602-1796). Iman Willem Falck, as Governor (1765-1785). Rupee 1784, Mint: Colombo, Silver (ø 22 mm – w. 11.71 g.). Edge: plain. Codrington 127. Schloten 1260. KM 31.1. Very rare.

Obverse:
Malay-Arabic legend (Wang Walan-d Kompani Kolom-bu = Coin (of the) Holland Company, Colombo). Border of rays.

Reverse:
Malay-Arabic legend (Puqu djaziret Sailung = Money (of the) Island (of) Ceylon). Four dot cross at top. Date (1784) at bottom. Border of rays.

Note:
Rupee issued to the Surat standard under Resolution of 1784 April 1st.

At the beginning of the 20th century the specimen of the Henry Thomas Grogan collection was considered as unique and in the Schulman Auction (Amsterdam, 23rd February 1914, Lot 550) it realised the considerable sum of 300 Gulden.
